🏈 Game Day Wings: Sweet Heat Garlic Wings (Oven or Smoker-Friendly)

There’s something about game day in the Kern River Valley that just feels better with good food on the table. Whether you’re hosting friends, feeding the family, or keeping it simple for a living-room watch party, wings are always a win.

This is a Lake Isabella True Value original:
Sweet Heat Garlic Wings — crispy, sticky, and packed with flavor. No fancy equipment required. You can make these in the oven, on the grill, or in a smoker if you’ve got one.

🍗 Sweet Heat Garlic Wings (Our Original Recipe)

What You’ll Need

For the Wings

  • 3–5 lbs chicken wings (drums & flats)

  • Paper towels (for drying)

  • Cooking spray or a light oil

Dry Seasoning

  • 2 tsp salt

  • 2 tsp black pepper

  • 2 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

  • ½ tsp cayenne (optional)

  • 1 tbsp brown sugar (adds great color + balance)

Sweet Heat Garlic Sauce

  • ½ cup butter

  • ¼ cup honey

  • 3 tbsp hot sauce (more or less depending on your heat level)

  • 3–4 cloves garlic, minced (or garlic paste)

  • Optional: 1 tbsp BBQ sauce for a deeper finish

🔥 Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Prep the Wings

Pat the wings dry with paper towels (this helps them crisp up).
Toss in a bowl with the dry seasoning until evenly coated.

Tip: Let them sit 10–15 minutes while the oven heats up.

Step 2: Bake Until Crispy

Preheat oven to 425°F.

Place wings on a foil-lined baking sheet (a wire rack helps crisp them even more).

Bake for 40–45 minutes, flipping halfway through.

You’re looking for golden, crisp edges and fully cooked wings.

Step 3: Make the Sauce

In a small saucepan, melt butter on low heat.
Stir in honey, hot sauce, and garlic. Simmer 2–3 minutes until smooth.

Step 4: Toss + Serve

Toss the wings in the warm sauce and serve immediately.

Game day add-ons:

  • Ranch or blue cheese

  • Celery + carrots

  • Extra napkins (trust us)
